GENERATOR COMPONENTS
A BRIEF OVERVIEW OF MAJOR GENERATOR SET COMPONENTS.

1. CONTROL PANEL
The control panel is responsible for housing output controls for the generator. It also displays vital sign for both the engine and generator such as; Engine speed, oil, fuel, temperatures, generator voltage, current, phase and frequency switch.
2. STARTER
The starter rotates or “cranks” the engine in order to initialize operation under its own power. The starter’s power is supplied by a series of heavy duty batteries.
3. SKID
Generator sets are extremely heavy and require a strong base to support all the weight. The skid also secures the engine and generator in place so it does not move during operation.
4. ENGINE
Most industrial generator sets will have a diesel engine that provides mechanical energy to the generator. The larger the displacement of the engine, the more energy can be converted.
5. AIR FILTER
The engine requires large amounts of air to operate. The filter prevents particles like sand, dirt, and dust from entering into the engine and damaging it.
6. FAN
The radiator fan usually consist of several blades that spin according to engine speed. The air blows though the radiator in order to remove heat.
7. RADIATOR
The radiator is made up of tubes and thin metal fins that carry coolant throughout the unit. The fins conduct the heat from tubes and transfer it to the air flowing through the radiator, bringing the temperature of the coolant down.
8. COOLANT FILTERS
Coolant filters remove any contaminants like rust, mineral deposits and shavings from the cooling system that may reduce the effectiveness of the cooling system and overheating.
9. GENERATOR
The generator converts the mechanical energy produced by the engine into electrical energy through induction. The power output will vary on size and displacement.
